Turn a Ghost site into an Android app

Ghost already gives you a fast theme, members and email. Wrapped as an app, it's a branded reading app you fully own.

Short answer

Use your Ghost site's domain as the start URL. Ghost's Portal sign-in works in the WebView through emailed links or codes; members stay signed in between launches. Add a tiny code-injection snippet to hide the subscribe footer and Portal trigger for already-signed-in app users, and use a theme with good mobile navigation.

Code injection is your app-mode switch

Ghost's Settings → Code injection adds HTML to every page. Paste the output of the app mode snippet generator in the header, then hide what app users don't need:

<style>html.in-app .gh-footer-signup, html.in-app .site-footer{display:none}</style>

Members and sign-in

Like other email-link logins, the magic link opens wherever the mail app sends it — usually Chrome. If your Ghost version offers sign-in codes, prefer them in the app. Otherwise, explain it with one line in the sign-in screen.

Ghost sells memberships through Stripe on the web. Inside a Play-distributed app, selling digital subscriptions raises Google Play Billing rules; reading for existing members is fine. See payments in URL apps.

Speed

Ghost themes are fast already. Keep it that way: lazy-load images, avoid heavy embed scripts on the home page, and let the app's pull-to-refresh pick up new posts.

FAQ
